They say that Hawaii is Pardise. Well for me it is right now. But not for the typical “Hawaii” reasons. It is a paradise for me because right now it is the one place that I can really be what I want to be at this time in my life…Grandma… Kevin (Grandpa) and I just spent 4 of the most wonderful days in Hawaii visiting Brian, Cainla and the sweetest (and cutest) little grandson, Hudson. I was worried that he might not be too crazy about all of the attention that his grandma and grandpa were ready to bestow upon him since in all reality he didn’t really know us. The last time we got to spend time together was 10 months earlier at Christmas time. That’s forever in “baby time”.
Brian had called us the night before we flew out to see if I would mind if he picked me up at the airport just as soon as we landed while Kevin got our luggage, got our rental car and checked into our hotel. The reason being, on Thursdays he normally had an anatomy class and would take Hudson to JR and Jessica’s to play with Macy (Jr and Jessica’s daughter) as Thursdays Caila is at her office working. This particular Thursday though Hudson and Macy had both been feeling bad because of a bug that had been going around. Brian just needed to pop into class, take a quick test and then he would be done for the day at school. I told him of course that would be no problem! So as soon as we landed I called Brian to tell him we had arrived. I rushed outside to meet Brian while Kevin dealt with all of the luggage, poor, wonderful guy. That’s when I got my first glimpse of Hudson sitting in his car seat in the back seat of their car and he a glimpse of me, the ecstatic grandma! I was so happy! I kept turning around to look at him and talk to him and he kind of had this look on his face like, “Well, you seem like you are a nice lady, daddy seems to be ok with you, but I’m just not sure yet.”
We rushed over to Brian’s campus as he was already going to be a few minutes late. Brian is very blessed that his grades are top of the class and his professor likes him so being late was ok this time. Brian had let him know in advance the situation. We found a parking place, parked the car and then Brian took the stroller out of the trunk and got Hudson all set up. The plan was, while Brian was taking his test I would stroll around the campus with Hudson until Brian was done. Brian gave me directions to the student cafeteria and then we were off! I have to say, I think, no I know, I was beaming from ear to ear with probably the greatest grandma grin their could be. Hudson is so outgoing and happy and all of the students and professors on campus were drawn to his sweetness! It was so much fun strolling around and Hudson didn’t seem to have a problem with the fact that he was with someone he basically didn’t really know. He was humming and singing to himself as we walked around and checked out the campus. We went to the student cafeteria and I got something to drink. Brian had said Hudson liked bananas so we got one of those too and then found a place to sit down and eat bananas, drink and get to know each other a bit. It was great! Before I knew it, Brian was done with his test and we were headed to our next adventure….Hudson’s 15 month check-up at the doctor’s office!
